Best in our made-up class!
This email came to me in late 2007.
I posted it to an open recruiter discussion blog shortly after I received it, because it was so bad, and I had not received any reply from my query to the person that sent it to me. It received a comment from someone else who had an experience with this recruiter, but in late 2007, the owner of the recruiter business in question found it. That's when all the fun started.
The players:
Me - Me, of course.
Tortolli - the owner of the business using a place name in Sardinia (sort of - see my notes below, in red.)
someothername - the owner of the business using some other name. No idea where this name came from. I redacted it just in case it really is someone.
lostperson - another person who had experience with this recruiter. They only show up once.
OWNER - the owner and moderator of the website this was posted on.
Me is my younger self. He had more fucks to give than I do, so he tended to reply and be a lot snarkier about comments when replying to them. That's why he got enthusiastic in spots. He's older now, and doesn't have any fucks, so he'd just ignore this email and put it in the trash.
The orginal email and post is presented below, with the comments on the post following. The site in question would auto-generate a title, so that's why you'll see some odd stuff in blue. It's the title of the post if the submitter didn't write one. There's also what appears to be duplicate titles and post dates, the recruiter was simply copying their previous posts and re-submitting them.
The original email and my post. Email is posted exactly as received, sanitized for people and places.
I really wasn't sure that this was even real. It's not well worded, has a generic link to a social website, has an AOL address for the reply-to, and really just looks, well, phony. It does appear to be a real company, but I really don't feel like taking that risk. Except for the location, this is exactly how it came to me, stray colon and all.
Nothing against you, but please work on your presentation a little. This just is too 'off' looking.

You'll notice the person is using an AOL address for their business. That's not a mistake, they were (and are, as far as I can tell) using this same AOL address. The URL for LinkedIn didn't have any business name or UID, so who knows what that was trying to say. I have to assume the 3070 hanging at the end of one line means HP3070, an in-circuit PCB tester system that Hewlett-Packard used to make back in the day.
I actually did decide to reply to this email, and sent a cover letter, resume, and other information that was requested in the email.
Would someone please give that extra colon a home?

I decided to send a slightly modified resume to this company, with a follow up a few days later. To date, there was no reply even though I directly asked for the detailed description. I have to assume this one is fake.

Unfortunately...real
I'm actually a financial guy...and I received an email, much much worse than the one here from this doofus several months ago. Curious, I responded, providing information on what I would and wouldn't consider...and specifically, in italics even (as I suspected it was) said iwas not interested in CPA firms and why. To that I got another almost incomprehensible reply. But the position was exactly what I expected...a very well advertised always recruiting local CPA firm, and she had set an appointment up for me!
To that, I responded and said the CPA thing was exactly what I said I didn't want...and something like communicating with her was hard, as there was some serious grammar errors and spelling errors...and even suggested (helpfully I thought) she may want to correct the terrible ones (and a repeated word) the were even in the subject line of the email...
Boy did I get a vile email in reply...the less vile, but more stupid remarks were, as I recall, something to the effect of both: how was she to know I didn't want a CPA firm....AND how dare I think she should read what people send her....she's an executiove recruiter running a business. And I shouldn't reply to what she was writing as she was blocking my email address. I was certainly heartbroken.
I actually was curious enough to run a search (name/address - that type of thing)...business out of house...other business at that address include cleaning service, hauling, and something else I can't rememeber - all at same number.
Well...I bet if she makes a placement, it will make her year.

I kind of figured as much. I'm guessing Recruiter Name is merely finding jobs posted elsewhere and passing them along, hoping to make a buck in the process.
You're doing better than I did - I wasn't able to find an address for this company. Granted, I didn't look all that hard. The only thing I ran across was another posting, worded almost identically to mine. Find something that works, and stick with it.
I'm still waiting for a reply from her, as well as looking for a home for a stray colon...

You'll notice the LinkedIn URL is now fully formed. You could, at the time, click on it and be taken to their page. LinkedIn has since changed the format of their URLs. But, it was simply a blast-to-the-masses email, as the "Dear Candidate," is shown exactly as received. This was a thing I found online, and was posted to show the recruiter was doing this to everyone. I'm not sure why this one is better written than the others.
Recruiter Business Name is the best agency I have worked with
To the gentleman that are whining like babies and trashing someone and a company they know nothing about
Really mature guys, I guess this is why they invent sites like this for idiots to have a place to cry! I wonder if that is why no one calls you back for employment.... here are some facts.
Many times the text in an e-mail changes went sent out to different e-mail addresses, I have seen this often.
You post your resume on monster.com and welcome recruiters to call on you.
Do you really expect that a recruiter or company has to answer every single resume back that they get sent?
They are not obligated to do so, they are trying to help.
The bottom line is that your skills were not a fit for the job and by not answering is the nice way to tell candidates that there is no interest.
Funny thing is the company is legit, very professional, and the number in no way belongs to any hauling, cleaning or other company. You need to do better research.
This company staffs for over 50 clients and does well both East and West Coast. I know because I have hired them!! They are fabulous!!

"someothername" randomly switches between first and third person when replying to comments. It becomes obvious later on that this is the recruiter themselves making the replies.
You seem to be overlooking
You seem to be overlooking one thing here. I didn't call them, they called me. Granted, I dilly-dallied in sending a resume off, but I promptly replied to a SECOND, different email I received (different in job only, the rest was identical.) No reply to that one either.
Breakdown!
To the gentleman that are whining like babies and trashing someone and a company they know nothing about
Hard to know anything about a company when they won't call you back after you do everything they want.
Really mature guys, I guess this is why they invent sites like this for idiots to have a place to cry! I wonder if that is why no one calls you back for employment.... here are some facts.
A place where we can post about people that want to play the game but want to invent their own rules, perhaps. I get plenty of calls, sometimes to the point where I turn down offerings. That has not been the case recently, since the midwest (USA) is getting hit hard with job losses.
Many times the text in an e-mail changes went sent out to different e-mail addresses, I have seen this often.
What?
You post your resume on monster.com and welcome recruiters to call on you.
I do. My name, a real email address, my location, and exactly what I'm looking for are all posted there as well. But still, I get stuff like this. This one didn't even bother to find the email address that's so clearly listed.
Do you really expect that a recruiter or company has to answer every single resume back that they get sent?
When they contact me first, yes. Recruiter Business Name contacted me, and I replied as per request (after deliberation.)
They are not obligated to do so, they are trying to help.
They can help by being more serious about who they send emails out to. This is starting to show the signs of being a blast to the masses type mail. If you have no interest in replying to the communications that you send out, then don't send them out. I think they ARE obligated to reply if they initiated contact.
The bottom line is that your skills were not a fit for the job and by not answering is the nice way to tell candidates that there is no interest.
So, the fact that this company contacted me first doesn't matter? That something about my profile attracted them? That I wrote a personal (not form letter) cover letter to them? That I sent everything they requested (after deliberation) and still didn't get so much as a how-do-you-do? I don't expect to get every job I apply for, but when I do everything you ask and you still don't reply, well...that just looks bad for you. Even worse when it was you that did the intial contacting.
Funny thing is the company is legit, very professional,
A generic AOL address gets laughed at in all the tech circles I know of, and a real email address or five will set you back $20/year with GoDaddy. A generic link to a social website where you have to be a member to see most anything is a no-no if you want to show people something. And, randomly peppering your emails with technical jargon you know nothing about is the best way to make yourself look silly. Note the plaintive '3070' hanging around at the end of a sentence. Um...3070?
Even then, AOL was a joke. GoDaddy was still a somewhat respectable company.
and the number in no way belongs to any hauling, cleaning or other company. You need to do better research.
Probably true. But, it is a cell phone. Not a big deal anymore.
The person was replying to me as if I were lostperson
This company staffs for over 50 clients and does well both East and West Coast. I know because I have hired them!! They are fabulous!!
I assume you mean you've hired employees via Recruiter Business Name, and not Recruiter Business Name. I'm happy that you've had a stellar experience.
Please, sir or madam, do a little more proofreading on your posts. That's very painful to read.
Anyway, to close, I'll repeat this because I think it's worth repeating. Don't send out things unless you plan on replying to them. If you call someone, expect them to do something, they do it and you blow them off, don't get mad when they call you on it.

We now roll into 2008.
It was an uneasy silence on the home front. Tortolli enters the game.
If you search for "Tortolli," you'll probably find a place in Sardinia, Italy called Tortoli. Tortoli is a resort town and seems to be a popular tourist destination. I can't remember exactly, but I seem to recall finding recruiter's Facebook page and seeing something about a recent or upcoming trip to - Italy. It didn't occur to me at the time to connect the two, mostly because I didn't think to search for the name to see what came up.

Fake ? perhaps not interested
Mr Me,
To help you in your endeavors, note that when a company, recruiter or staffing firm does not reply to your e-mail, it means NOT QUALIFIED, NOT INTERESTED, NOT UP TO PAR,
Some folks choose not to hurt the feelings of a candidate unlike the way you are using your format to play "sour grapes" in your job search.
If you wanted a really good site to rate recruiting, you would write about the unethical practices not grammer mistakes,
You have defeated the purpose of which I believe you intended.

I don't know about you, but I consider sending out blast-to-the-masses email, never replying, then whining about someone calling you out on it to be somewhat unethical. That's why we're here, to talk about the very thing that tortolli claims we aren't talking about!
bad researcher, bad accountant?
To the CPA gentelman,
To claim you ran a search on a company and that their address and number came up with other businesses attached in an attempt to discredit the firm in which you speak, and all that shows in fact is that you are another unemployed blow hard lashing out on your inability to get work, and as an executive myself that has had to find work, it is a disgrace.
I shall never visit this site website-name to ever determine whom I would use for recruiting. They are simply using it as a bashing format,

@Satisfied client I'm very
@Satisfied client
I'm very happy to hear that you've had good luck using Recruiter Business Name services. However, using them as a retainer provides a different view than the one we here on the front will get.
Regarding my "federal case" over the way the email was written - I would never, ever, in my wildest dreams, cold-call a potential client with anything less than a perfect letter. To do so would indicate sloppiness on my part. If you feel that is acceptable practice, then I do not wish to do business with you. The fact that gadgets such as Blackberry-type devices are available has no bearing on the subject at hand.
The company in question cold-called me with a poorly written message that made me instantly think "Well, this isn't even thought out enough to make sure it's complete and correct - do I want to deal with them?"
The answer, in this case, and all others similar, will always be "No."
By Me at 2008-08-15 21:39

@Mr Tortolli I think you and
@Mr Tortolli
I think you and many others miss the point here.
I'll start out by stating that all of the experiences I have posted on this site are ones where the company in question cold-called me. That is, I had no previous contact with them. This is the case with Recruiter Business Name. I have to assume that, because I received this cold solicitation, there was already interest.
The email clearly invited me to send a resume, and request more information. I sent a resume, cover letter, and a request for more information. I received nothing back. The "more information" that was promised in the email was never delivered.
One of the things that annoys me now (and did then) is when a recruiter just sends out an email that says "I can't download your resume!" or somesuch nonsense where they demand you send them one. Don't you already have it from the job board you pulled my information from? I've made it a point to ignore these requests - if you can't do your job I am not going to do it for you.
As I pointed out previously, I believe there was already interest. All of the information contained in my resume is contained within the profile that Recruiter Business Name viewed on the job board. If I am not qualified, not of interest, not up to par, then why did Recruiter Business Name chose to contact me in the first place, and so clearly indicate that they would send me more information on request? By the standards you present, I should have never received the email.
If you believe that it's ok to contact people, tell them to call you for more 'whatever,' and then ignore them, please do not allow me to do business with you.
Regarding the (second) comment about my being a grammar freak - well, one of the things that has always been drilled into my head is that you always represent your company. That is, any letter you send, any product you make, anything you do personally will all reflect on your business. If you believe that it's ok to cold-call potential clients with poorly written letters containing information that you do not intend to follow up on, then please do not allow me to do business with you.
There are no sour grapes here, just my one-shot experience with this particular recruiter.

The recruiter keeps posting this same "we won an award" text multiple times. The website OWNER eventually calls them out on this. I never bothered pointing out that someothername was using both a first and third person point of view while posting. I probably should have, but I just let them run on.
2009 has come to us, and I had been inactive on the site for a while. I found their last replies and made some more of my own. We don't see tortolli much this year, mostly the Recruiter themselves, using their alter ego, telling us how they now have won this award two years in a row.

Recruiter Business Name are a bunch of spammers
Recruiter Name, did you really need to astroturf eleven freaking posts with the same content on this website? What makes you think that sending bulk spam to potential candidates, and never answer any of their replies will help your business? How professional is it to make nasty posts on a random website when you can't be bothered to make contact in a professional manner? Candidates have to respond professionally or they will be ignored. What makes you so different?
Oh, and 1994 called, they want their dog's website back.
As I've posted before, people post recruiter's contact information here, and comments about their experiences with said recruiters. People searching for information on your company are going to end up here and other places, read the posts and responses, and make their own conclusions on whether to do business with you in the future.
Pissing in the well is no way to have clean drinking water. Do not be nasty to the people who do the work that gets you paid.
Oh, and Website Name is the number one Website Type website, according to the National Website Type Website Association. Thanks for playing.

Annoying Recruiting Practices
Perhps this is a bashing forum. Who cares? The astroturfing on this thread is pretty silly, especially when you and Recruiter Name are being kinda nasty to people that have had dealings with your company.
Here's why we're pissed:
[] Agency contacts job seeker about a job
[] job seeker responds with a resume and is ignored
[] Agency contacts job seeker about another job
[] job seeker responds with a resume and is ignored again
[] Agency contacts job seeker about another job
[] job seeker responds with a resume and is ignored again, and wonders why they didn't respond. Again
[] Agency contacts job seeker about another job
[] job seeker ignores further communiques
[] Agency contacts job seeker about another job
This is starting to be a pretty common practice for some low-end recruiting agencies. One of the functions of this website is to call this kind of bullshit behavior out into the open. Do not spam job seekers. Do not ignore people responding.
If you keep ignoring your candidates, they'll ignore you. Or, we'll start laughing at your tactics on websites such as this.

As you can probably tell, the person just copied the text they posted before, without removing the previous subjects. Website OWNER calls recruiter out on this below, as recruiter doesn't seem to understand how SEO works.
Repeated Annoying Posts by Recruiter Name from Recruiter Business Name
Recruiter Name, you do realize that by repeatedly posting these same comments, you are inviting the search engines to choose this page, instead of your company's page. Here, try this: Search Google for Recruiter Business Name, Search Yahoo for Recruiter Business Name, Search Bing for Recruiter Business Name.
Right now, this page is the number two entry on each of the search engines, when doing a search for "Recruiter Business Name". This page generates quite a bit of traffic, as far as this website goes. How long until this page is the number one entry?
The proper thing to do, is to be polite, and address the complaints. Though I will concede that the post has a personal comment inside, which is not how we should be posting recruiters -- personal comments should be posted separately, as an actual comment. I edit things where I can.
Also, be sure to read our usage policy.

Website Name a company Basher do not take seriously
Thank you for making me aware
Thank you for making me aware of this spam site that folks continue to talk about my company without ever fact checking or knowing me at all.
These folks clearly did not get hired and are now slamming me.Can't you see that? Read between the lines.
I will notify again Google and Yahoo to remove this from their search pages as you are not posting a contact e-mail for webmaster for me to reach you to ask you to do so.
I have had them removed before if you notice, when you click on it, it comes up no page.
I feel sorry for all folks out of work, but will not tolerate this slamming thru your website. I would think you would be professional and see that this is just what it is!
No one even knows this exists, and I think it would be a great useful site if run properly.
It looks now like a site where unhired folks go to cry,
Let me know if you wish to discuss and give an agency the chance to tell their side of things,

Here's where the recruiter first admits that this is "their" company, so the principle recruiter has been calling everyone names for the better part of two years. And yes, there was contact information for the website's owner. You simply had to look for it, and it wasn't like it was hidden away under a link you couldn't click. It also wasn't as if the OWNER never read the forum - I'm sure this was showing quite a bit of activity in the Drupal dashboard, and OWNER had been active in this post already.

Recruiter is butthurt at this point. They've copied what they posted before and re-posted it, previous post notifications included. You only got the "edit" function when you were posting from your own account here, so they were copying stuff while logged in. Recruiter clearly identifies that this is "my" company in the post.
someothername is now blocked
Since you violate our usage policy and post repeated spam, you are blocked from posting anything further. You can come back when you learn how to use the Internet.
I'm gonna go back to crying, since you won't hire me.

Website Name Policy..One sided harassment to staffing agency
I have not been on this site for some time, and thought I might give it another try,but I see nothing has changed here.
It seems the same OWNER's real name who continues to argue with Recruiter Business Name and others in the staffing industry, has now blocked the company from e-mail and defending itself against repeated harassment that Website Name finds appropriate.
In looking into things further I see to know surprise that OWNER's real name is in fact the blogger who owns this and many other "basher" sites,
How unfair to post things, and then block the other party from answering,
This is a site that will never be taken seriously,
Save the banter too as I am sure you will write back to me, and do block me as well, as I wont return,
Regards,
Mr Tortolli.

This is tortolli's last performance, and whatever "International business" was being performed has evaporated. Seeing as how the recruiter's other account was banned, there were no more messages from them and they decided not to create a new account.
I hadn't realized I was going to open up such a can of worms with this one.
Gone?
The website associated with this business appears to be offline.

And that, was that. The recruiter never replied again, and their website had vanished. I never received another email from them, so I assume they know what they did and to whom. I did comb through the Wayback Machine, it looks like their site was last active in 2010. There was one of those "search" parking pages in 2011, and the next hit in 2014 was a blank page. I remember copying the assets for the parked page, as it was a pleasant caramel with a multi-color banner bar.
On a whim, I decided to check and see if the place was still going. I found a spotty Facebook page with the company name, still using the same AOL address. In 2022, that's hilarious. There were some mentions of staffing, but it mostly consisted of some unconnected posts that you'd probably need to have been there to understand, and a picture of some kid doing the nay-nay dressed in baggy adult clothes. Whatever website they had is long gone, and I'm not sure if they're still doing this professionally or what. There is a LinkedIn profile, but it's just as bare.
All I can say is based on how the FB page was presented, they didn't learn anything about being professional in business.
I have noticed that there are a few posts that seem to be in reply to something that's missing. I remember the database being borked on this website one day, and things got a bit scrambled. I've re-assembled all of the posts in the order in which they were posted (according to the post date,) but there may be one or two that got deleted. I don't remember if you could delete your own posts, but that may have happened as well.
Regardless, this is a company that I would never hear from again. I'd love to tell them about the National Old Forum Website Post Association Award that I won two years in a row!
