My 2023 Hamfest list. See you there!
2022 was kind of a moderate year in regards to the hamfests I was able to attend. While it started off strong, weather and a bad cold given to me by a sick building and sicker co-worker prevented me from going to anything later in the year. This year, I plan on making up for it with a few new shows and a bunch of regulars - as if I need to bring home more junk.
I only have a few devices in my wish list this year, and those are mostly “Get them while you can, because they are getting scarce” devices, including a decent tube tester as well as a couple of particular types of radio.
The list of what I’m planning to attend follows, and if you’re interested in this stuff at all, go check them out. Other than the Toledo show, I’ve been to all of them in the past and can give them a Grade-A recommendation. They may not be as big as Dayton, but there’s always good stuff to be found.
Some of these announce later in the year, check their links in April or so.

Unfortunately, one of my co-workers generously gave me a cold, which was amplified by working in a dirty, mold-filled building. I’m sorry I didn’t get to attend this one, but it’s on my list for next year.

The Fort Wayne (Indiana) Hamfest
The last one in the area that I usually attend, the Ft. Wayne show is indoors and doesn’t get rained out. It’s usually a good portion of the day show, and I’ve never regretted the drive.

Didn’t make it to the Findlay radio show…
The day wasn’t looking promising. While it didn’t rain up there, the overall mood of the show was somewhat depressed as the threat of weather kept people away. I was told by a person that did attend that the show was still decent. So perhaps next year.
I did manage to make it to an antique engine show the day before, and will post those pictures soon. The next, and probably last radio show that I’ll try and attend this year is in Fort Wayne. Stay tuned for that information!

Pictures from the 2022 Columbus Hamfest
This year’s show was a bit muted - the sky threatened rain all day, and it did rain in several locations around the city. Fortunately, it held off at the Aladdin Shrine Temple, but still kept things low key. More vendors showed up as the morning went on, and the inside of the building was still fairly well packed as usual.
There was enough to keep me and a friend busy for almost 3 hours, and we found ourselves going back and forth as new people arrived. A few things I probably should have walked out with, but I have to be kind of choosy because I have too much junk already. Oh well…there’s always Findlay in a month!

Pictures from the Dayton Hamvention 2022
After being closed for two years, the amount of goodies that showed up this year didn’t disappoint. There was so much stuff it was hard to see it all in one day, and I missed some photos I should have grabbed. I probably should have went Saturday as well, but one day of this stuff is plenty - and there’s more shows to come.
It was hard to resist dragging junk home, but I only wound up with one large piece of equipment. It appears to be fully functional, so I’m happy with the $20 I spent on it. The rest of my purchases were books and tubes and some odds n ends, nothing really major.
As always, this was an experience from the sheer amount of stuff that shows up. Hopefully, next year will be just as good - see you there!
